I’ve been thinking a lot about managing priorities this week. As a small business owner, managing your marketing strategy requires a strong discipline of focusing on tasks and responsibilities that are important but not necessarily urgent.
I see a lot of small business owners neglect marketing when (because) they are busy – which inevitably leads to an urgent income crisis, night sweats, and “I hope this works” advertising. That’s no fun for anyone (except perhaps the advertising agency).
When it comes to marketing, a little done with consistency always wins over irregular spurts of super-hero effort.
Here’s my new infographic doodle derived from Stephen Covey’s Urgency vs. Importance model. The best way to simplify your life is to focus on the “important, but not urgent”. That goes for your marketing strategies as much as it does for planning dinner.
